Ericsson and China Mobile continue IoT collaboration with recent updates

Ericsson and China Mobile have signed a cooperation agreement around the Swedish operator’s Device Connection Platform in order to strengthen the latter’s IoT goals.

The agreement, signed at Mobile World Congress Shanghai last week, is based on the strategic cooperation framework agreements which the two firms signed at MWC in Barcelona this year for the expansion of IoT opportunities in industry and enterprises.

Qiao Hui, general manager of China Mobile IoT, said: “By launching DCP, we will be able to solve unified connection management and roaming across borders for our international customers, while at the same time share business opportunities in the global IoT market, which will further drive the expansion of IoT business overseas for China Mobile, and improve our market competitiveness in this field.”

Chris Houghton, head of Ericsson’s market area North East Asia said: “Ericsson is fully committed to supporting operators’ success by tapping into the unlimited business opportunities in IoT. Our commercially proven DCP globally will help China Mobile further expand in the international IoT market.”

Alongside Intel, China Mobile Research Institute and China Mobile Jiangsu Company, Ericsson has also conducted a successful demonstration of the first 3GPP-compliant, multi-vendor Standalone (SA) 5G New Radio (NR) call which will help in boosting the commercial deployment of standard-based 5G networks. The firms conducted live Interoperability Development Testing of 3GPP-compliant SA 5G NR technology at the Ericsson Lab in Beijing.

Asha Keddy, vice President and General Manager Next Generation Standards, Intel, said: “Intel’s ongoing collaboration with Ericsson and China Mobile and our achievement of 3GPP-compliant Standalone 5G New Radio multi-vendor interoperability will help to prepare the industry for the deployment of 5G NR SA networks. As 5G networks begin to be deployed, a new wave of 5G experiences will be possible, powered by Intel technologies across the cloud, core network, access network, and devices.”
